Webinars
Webinar Increasing Paper Machine Agility with a Novel Grade Change Concept

Learn to assess the performance of their grade change system and see if it can or should be improved as well as how to explain how normal process interactions can make grade change difficult to control well.

Webinars
Evaluation of LLDPE Sealants and Structures for Ultrasonic Sealing

Ultrasonic sealing is an emerging technology that offers potential cost savings to flexible packaging converters through increased line speeds, narrower seals and reduced leakers. Most polyethylenes, coextruded films or laminates that can be conductive or heat sealed can also be ultrasonically welded. However, the mechanical forces required in ultrasonic sealing can weaken films.

Nanocellulose in the Formulation of Emulsions and Formulation-Composition Maps

Cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) and naocrystals (CNC) are high aspect nanomaterials that can form structured networks. Taking advantage of this property, I will introduce novel approaches to wood deconstruction for the development of CNF and CNC. They mainly consist of microemulsions with super-solubilizing power and ultralow interfacial tension. Further, the unique properties of fluid multiphase systems will be exploited in the synthesis of various types of emulsions.

Improving Sustainability with QCS Life Cycle Management

Since inception, Quality Control Systems (QCS) have played an integral role in the quality and efficiency of the paper industry. However, there are instances when needed capital dollars for upgrades are just not available. Agility is therefore required to sustain the life of the QCS while maintaining or improving profitability.

This webinar is presented by Kevin Karstedt, Jeff Wettersten and introduced by Cory Francer.

Webinars
Overview, Properties and Opportunities for Nanocellulose

The forest products industry has a unique opportunity that is unfolding: the production of renewable and sustainable nanomaterials for a broad range of applications. Commercialization of this technology will preserve existing jobs, allowing our mature industry to remain competitive.

Webinars
Responsive Cellulose Nanocrystal Composites

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) are high-aspect ratio, mechanically stiff fibers which can serve as both a bio-renewable reinforcing agent in nanocomposites as well as a handle for adding stimuli responsiveness.

Webinars
Improving Winder Safety

The batch process occurring at the winder represents one of highest potential areas of danger in the mill for operators and maintenance personnel. Speeds and technology continue to increase. Regulations are changing (e.g. EN ISO 13849 machinery standards). How safe is safe enough? Will a safety upgrade reduce overall throughput? Will automating some winder functions both improve safety and productivity? How much downtime will be required? These and more questions will be answered in this webinar. Included in the discussion will be guards, fencing, E-stops, electrical and fluid control improvements, mechanical holding devices, threading and splicing modifications and automation.

Webinars
The Power of Real-Time Costing

In most operating environments, operators and shift supervisors are focused on their individual operating parameters: keeping the line running and monitoring deviations in selected indicators. In most cases, they have no understanding of the dollar value of the various operating decisions they make and the knock-on impact their decisions may have through the value chain; whether in terms of total added cost or variance in usages.
